Julia Bouwsma (born 1980) is an American poet, educator, and librarian. She lives off-the-grid in the mountains of western Maine, where she is a poet, freelance editor, critic, small-town librarian, and farmer. She is the author of the poetry collections Death Fluorescense (Sundress Publications, 2025), Midden (Sundress Publications, 2018), and Work by Bloodlight (Cider Press Review, 2017), both the latter of which received Maine Literary Award for Poetry in consecutive years.
Bouwsma served as the Poet Laureate of Maine from 2021 to 2026. Bouwsma is the recipient of residencies from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and the Vermont Studio Center. She earned her BA from Swarthmore College and her MFA from Goddard College. A former Managing Editor for Alice James Books, she currently serves as Book Review Editor for Connotation Press: An Online Artifact and as Library Director for Webster Library in Kingfield, Maine.
