there are so many runners
so many boulder mountain trails
someone I feel into the light
welcomes me back
now from the east
a chill wind
blows in gimbals
of circling blue flame
and my friend is laughing
as if he had always been living
and from a distance I wonder
if moose ran along this trail

Victor Pearn received his Bachelor’s at University of Illinois, Springfield, and his Masters in English Literature at the University of Colorado. His writing has appeared in over 200 magazines including Caribbean Writer, Chiron Review, Haight Ashbury Literary Journal, Midwest Quarterly, Mind Matters Review, Negative Capability, Seventh Quarry.
