Two Redtails on an updraft
hawk the field, their flight a dance
of widening and approaching circles
spiraling. It’s spring.
Far below, the next meal scuttles
through a tangle of purple vetch.
In time, they’ll find it. For now,
hunger is the tango of two
Redtails courting: her curved
surprise, his sudden taloned
grasp. Later comes
the famished nest.
