You say el otro día, and it could be any time,
An afternoon of sunlight on red bougainvillea
Or a time when the canals were dark
As mahogany and filled with rain.
Two days ago or a hundred—we’ve held
Each other for a long time now. I’ve memorized
The bedspread at your apartment, the weave
Of the cloth, the colors grown muted.
You want to replace it, but I argue no—
You just got it the other day.
