the diet
by Karren LaLonde Alenier

“A piece of separate outstanding rushing
is so blind with open delicacy.”
from Tender Buttons, Gertrude Stein

we no longer keep the bowl
on the table instead harbor

what’s viscous nothing
like water running could it

be when you touch me the
blood flows unimpeded

between us eyes closed
no crime scene the birdlime

treats what tries to fly away if
I say softly give me sugar you do
