New Essay On Larry Levis by Joseph Fasano featured on Poets.org

The Academy of American poets have released a new essay by  Joseph Fasano, “Exile on Main Street: The Poetics of Larry Levis” online at Poets.org.

When I was asked recently to speak about the work of a poet I admire, my thoughts turned quickly to [Larry] Levis, whose sudden death in 1996 deprived the poets of my generation of the opportunity to meet or study with him…

In a related video, recorded at Poets Forum 2014 as part of the panel discussions on contemporary poetry, Joseph  Fasano  discusses the influence the late poet Larry Levis has had on his work. “I think his great theme is banishment,” Fasano says. “He has an image, he has a motif, he has an idea, and when it goes away it goes away, but it’s always there in the background.”

The  essay  “Exile on Main Street: The Poetics of Larry Levis” is included in the Academy of American Poets’ text collection, which features hundreds of essays, interviews, and articles about poets and poetry.
