(Mistranslations from the German)
VII. In Sleep
Birds, nightmoths, spiders, and bats
sleep in the dusky trees.
Your shadow, lost, like a bird, flaps
against night’s unbroken seams.
It tries to fly out of the darkness,
but you keep your eyes tight shut,
so there is no path for it to follow.
