A “Lonley House” by Artist Hagar Vardimon Graces the Cover of Forthcoming John Sibley Williams Book

Cider Press Review is delighted to announce a collaboration with Dutch fine artist Hagar Vardimon on the cover art for the forthcoming CPR Book Award winning title, Scale Model of a Country at Dawn.

Author John Sibley Williams has been a huge fan of Vardimon for years, and was instrumental in working with the artist for the project. As he wrote to Vardimon: “Both the press and I feel this is the perfect image to reflect the book’s themes and structures.” The image is one of several in her collection of Lonely Houses/Houses and Plants (2013).

Vardimon talks about herself sparingly, preferring to let her work speak. “I love to work with paper & thread, taking photographs and collecting vintage with a soft spot for quirky little things.” Vardimon is known for her threads and paper works. Using colorful embroidery thread, the artist stitches shapes and patterns right onto the pictures. Some cover the entire original picture; others add unexpected shocks of color around and atop the homes. Vardimon finds old photos of houses in books, cuts them out, and adds a rather happy element to the often-gloomy images.

She is “an artist, designer, mother of two kids and married. Living in beautiful Amsterdam, the Netherlands.” She earned her B.F.A degree at Bezalel academy. Her work has been seen both nationally and internationally, including: Robert Mann Gallery in New York, USA; Scope Art Miami, USA; Bedford Gallery in California, USA;The Schneider Museum of Art in Oregon, USA; Fresh, Hong Kong; Photo Biennial, Ireland; MK gallery, UK; Museum of Musée de Sant Cugat in Catalogne, Spain; Fresh stART in Los Angeles, USA; and many others in Europe and Worldwide.
